What happens when a rich cowboy, broken by loss and life, meets a woman who thinks she’s trailer trash, not good enough for him?

Caren started down the wrong road in life when she became pregnant at fifteen. Now at thirty-four, she’s divorced and living in a dump of a trailer. She spent the last ten years of her life sacrificing for her child, yet her teenaged daughter hates her and wants nothing to do with her. So when a single night with a handsome cowboy presents itself, Caren jumps at the chance to forget her troubles and live a little.

J. R. is just trying to make it through each lonely night. He’s lost everything worth living for, and he’s not interested in starting over. He simply wants a good time with no strings attached. But when he meets Caren, he suddenly discovers his heart isn’t as dead as he once believed. After their night together, Caren makes him yearn for more.

But a one-night-stand can’t heal years of pain—or can it?

Cara Thomas is an intelligent, voluptuous woman whose mother has just given her the fabulous birthday gift of cooking lessons with local celebrity chef Mike Nichols. The problem is that Cara loathes cooking. But when her friend Riva tells her that the sexy chef is a sure thing, Cara reluctantly agrees to take the cooking classes.

Chef Mike doesn’t want to teach silly cooking classes to a bunch of housewives and socialites. He prefers to spend his time in the kitchen actually cooking. But when his co-owner and ex-girlfriend Felicia manages to have the classes taped for a local television station for publicity for their restaurant, Mike hesitantly agrees.

The first class begins and a gaggle of giggling blondes arrive for their lessons. Standing out in the crowd is a stunning redhead that steals Mike’s breath away. He tries to get close to the beautiful woman, but unfortunately what commences is a comedy of mishaps every time Cara touches anything remotely connected to the kitchen. Mike has to come to Cara’s rescue over and over again. Undeterred, Mike pursues Cara with a single-minded determination, impressing the feisty redhead…in and out of the kitchen.

Brit Blaise has written a fabulously entertaining novel with A Sure Thing. Similar to consuming a mélange of culinary delights, my literary taste buds were laughing one moment and aroused the next. Mike is incredibly patient with the foibles that inevitably occur when Cara enters his kitchen, and she recovers well from the miniature disasters. Both are bound and determined to discover just who could possibly be sabotaging Cara’s lessons. At least, they are when they’re not arousing each other to distraction!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Sure Thing and can’t wait to see what Ms. Blaise comes up with next!

About the book
Will a ménage with four men unchain Melody forever?

When Melody Dietz finds herself chained to a co-worker’s bedroom wall, she’s not sure what to expect, but group sex never occurred to her—not in real life, anyway. This kind of thing happened in the steamy erotic romance novels she writes with her sister under the alias Honey Dix. Is she brave enough for a little four-on-one research?

To make matters worse, all four men have a grudge against her. Had she really treated the men in her life so badly that they sought revenge?

John Bradford wants to protect Melody, but under these extreme and very weird circumstances, he doesn’t know how. Even odder, she appears to want kink. In their three years together, he’d never considered this part of her. Melody scared him—he wanted a lasting relationship and she didn’t, and he was afraid of losing his heart. Now, just as he resigned his job and planned on moving far away, he’s confronted with falling even more in love with her.

Are the chains binding Melody just physical, or will she finally be set free?

An excerpt from the book
…If it came to that, Melody knew she could prove she hadn’t written the damned memo. Now wasn’t the time, however, to argue the point. Not with her day-planner in Alex hands. She didn’t want her secret life used as fodder for office gossip.

That planner had long since become the catch-all for her personal life, with page after page of private notes. She’d never told anyone, but her sister and she were writing erotic romance, not the flavor with a happily-ever-after, but the kind with kink…and lots of it. She’d be a laughingstock if these men knew.

As she moved, her chains rattled and gave her another jolt of panic. None of her ideas and fantasies involved chains. She’d never fantasized about bondage. Besides, there was no way Alex could’ve read what she’d written and believed it was real.

No way!

“I know your deepest, darkest secrets,” Alex said.

“You think what I’ve written in there is…?”

Melody made a split-second decision to take another tactic. If a couple of her kinky ideas came to life, why not? If she went along with them, what could they do? They’d be chained to secrecy like Alex had chained her to the wall. She could say she went along with them because she feared for her life. They’d just messed with the wrong woman.

“I’m not involved in any deals,” John said. “It’s time to unchain Melody.”

“‘Unchained Melody.’” Alex giggled like a girl and began to sing what had been one of her favorite songs until that moment. He shot a smile in Maxwell direction and Maxwell started to sing with him. Good grief!

Idiots.

Alex stopped singing and glared at John. “We didn’t expect you to go along with this. Max, Carl and I decided to give Melody exactly what she wants. Then we’ll all be equal. She won’t ever hold our jobs over our heads, and we’ll never speak of what happens here today. Deal, Melody?” Alex turned away from John and awaited her response.

Right about then she’d agree with anything to lose the chains. Admitting she wrote erotic romance with her sister under the name Honey Dix would be small potatoes, really. It might even make her a little less the ice queen around the office cooler. And to be honest, she was curious to see what they intended. Very curious.

As if he wanted to hurry her answer, Maxwell slipped his sweater over his head. He bunched it in his hand and rubbed it over his muscular chest. After Maxwell allowed the sweater to drop, he reached for his zipper. Melody flashed to Carl, who smiled; Alex, who clapped his hands, and finally to John, who appeared horror-stricken.

Was she really the kind of woman who had the nerve to see this through? “Consenting adults?” she asked.

Maxwell nodded before his slacks fell to his ankles. He stepped out of them and toed them aside. It wasn’t fair for them to use Maxwell as bait. While she hadn’t asked him out or ever thought of him that way, it was hard not to now. His powder-blue boxers looked beautiful against his tanned golden skin. He had the hard muscular body of a male underwear model. Melody anxiously awaited the revealing of his junk. She couldn’t help it…she had a curious nature.

It shocked her, however, to see Alex approach Maxwell and feather his hand over Maxwell’s well-defined abs. When Alex moved his hand lower while he stared at Melody, she knew…

No way.

Of all the fantasies or ideas written in her day-planner, she didn’t expect this to be the one they’d demonstrate for her. John crossed the floor in a threatening manner.

“I’ll handle this,” she told him loudly enough that he’d get the message to back off. If only they’d remove the chains. The damned things gave her the creeps.

“Show me,” she told Alex. “Consenting adults…”

What happens when a sassy, savvy, plus-sized professional woman jumps out of her element and into the frying pan? Can she resort to cooking to get a shot at a sure thing?

Cara Thomas is confronted with her worst nightmare—the kitchen stove. For her thirtieth birthday, she receives the unwelcome gift of cooking lessons from her mother. Cara doesn’t care if the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. The only thing she finds interesting about a man’s stomach is a six-pack of muscles and she doesn’t expect to find them in the kitchen. Her best friend’s promise of hot sex with the chef, however, motivates Cara to take his class. But XXX-treme cooking?

Hunky master-chef Mike Nichols dislikes taking time to teach cooking classes, but when a local TV station decides to film the segments, how can he refuse? His partner and co-owner of the restaurant delivers the usual bevy of blonde-baking-Barbies for the filming…but one voluptuous redhead steals the show and maybe his heart.

In the world of desserts and love, Mike proves to be as bold and buttery as they come! He gives Cara a preview of what she’s been missing her entire life and she develops a taste for more. But is she brave enough to see where it leads…even when it involves cooking?

…At midday, Cara found herself trying to work up the nerve to walk into the French restaurant for her cooking lessons. The memory of the time she burned her parents’ kitchen to cinders as a teenager haunted her. Could it be possible her refusal to step within a mile of a stove made her an unlikely candidate for marriage? Her mother insisted it did.

If it weren’t for Riva’s sure thing guarantee, no way would she be doing this. Taking a gulp of air, she locked her hand around the handle of the heavy-looking carved door and gave it a tug. The sight of wall-to-wall people in a lobby better suited to a boutique hotel than a five-star restaurant surprised her.

Cara pushed into the crowded room and began to search for someone to give her directions. When she took a closer look at the women who surrounded her, she stopped. There were almost a dozen tall blondes in slinky black dresses, cramped together and trying to look bored.

Could all these Vogue wannabes have come for cooking lessons?

Cara tried to become invisible. When that failed, she stood straighter, stretching her five-foot-nine inch frame another quarter-inch and wished she’d worn her slut-city shoes, too.

“Everyone who’s here to participate in Chef Nichols’ cooking lessons, please follow me,” one of the women said. Another blonde, but this one had pizzazz. When the woman waved her hand in the air with a motion for the group to follow, a diamond solitaire, at least four carats in size, sparkled under the light of the chandelier. She made all the other women in the room look like day-old bread.

Compared to Cara…she didn’t want to go there. The thin woman could easily fit twice into Cara’s suit.

“Are you here for Chef Mike’s class?” asked an older lady standing to Cara’s left.

Cara nodded. The taste of lip gloss reminded her to quit chewing her lip. Someone might guess the idea of cooking had her rattled. And, she told herself, allowing her mother to talk her into cooking lessons didn’t make her a pushover. After all, none of these anemic women could know she’d nearly burned her parents’ house to the ground while attempting to make French fries. None of these women looked like she’d even eat a French fry, let alone cook one.

“Michael is a wonderful teacher,” the woman gushed. “This is the third time I’ve taken his class.”

“That’s nice,” Cara said, visions of well-built firemen popping into her head. Ordinarily it would be a good thing, but cooking with a mob of too-skinny blondes redefined her perception of being out of her element.

“Don’t worry. You’ll do just fine,” the woman assured.

“Why bother to worry when you can just as easily obsess?” Cara quipped. She followed behind while the statuesque leader showed the group into the kitchen.

“Welcome, everyone, to Chef Mike Nichols’ kitchen!” The woman gave an exuberant Vanna White sweep of her skinny arms.

Cara had only a moment to be captivated by the sparkling white walls and gleaming metallic surfaces before she spied the cameras. Why were there TV cameras in the kitchen? Riva might want her face in front of a camera. Cara definitely did not.

“That’s not good,” she said under her breath, her feet glued to the floor while everyone else continued to file into the room. “I can’t do this. I don’t like to have my picture taken, let alone this,” she said to anyone who cared to listen.

Cara’s mouth started to dry. She managed multi-million-dollar portfolios and yet the thought of cooking in front of cameras reduced her to a mass of quivering green Jell-O—the only thing she could cook, once she’d coerced someone else into boiling the water.

The sound of a dull thud penetrated her fear. Cara turned her head to see a metal tray careen toward her out of the corner of her eye and then heard the tray’s contents hit the floor with a crash.

“Shi—shoot! Please move the camera cord before someone gets killed.” The big man who had just dropped the tray stood defiantly, fists on his hips, glaring at the cameraman. Just as quickly, the frown left his face when he glanced over at Cara.

She felt like a deer caught in the headlights surrounded by a herd of blonde heads as she looked back at the man who had to be Chef Mike. The sure thing? Her sure thing? No way!

Cara had to remind herself to breathe as she looked at him—inch by incredible inch. There were so many hunky inches she couldn’t take them in fast enough. Perhaps seventy-five of them in all, and each begged for her complete attention. Hunk with a capital “H.” She was getting hot just looking at him. Chef Mike? Could she get that lucky? This was her sure thing?…
