Goals

As I stated on the butterscotch martini girls blog, I finished a first draft today. This is the second short I’ve finished this month. One at 18,000 words and right now this one is 13,000. However, it’ll easily grow another 4,000 in edits. I also did the galleys for the Avalon book this month. So I think I’ve done well, but I still can’t project with clear accuracy what I’m capable of producing in a year. I’ll see what I end up after I go to the Roadrunner Saloon in the morning to write. I’m thinking 35,000 words a month is reasonable. 40,000 would be a stretch goal.
I also said it’s not just about quantity. The quality is as important and even more illusive. The two EPPIE nominations give me hope I’m on track with quality, but I want every story to show my growth as a new author. A new author trying to set clear goals.
40,000 a month would equal six full length manuscripts or 18 short stories, or four full length and maybe 6-8 short stories. That sounds like a worthy goal…

Me? Cool? Are you sat by me? I was so tired last night, I thought I was pretty dull company. And I’m still dragging today…I hope that doesn’t mean I’m coming down with something.
